Deutsche Post DHL Group joins the Transport Decarbonisation Alliance (TDA)

The Transport Decarbonisation Alliance is pleased to welcome Deutsche Post DHL Group as its 18th Member.

The TDA is a “coalition of the willing” consisting of countries, cities/states/provinces, and companies dedicated to accelerating the worldwide transformation of the transport sector to achieve net-zero emission mobility on a global scale before 2050. The TDA´s ambition is to become the most visible and influential forum for public and private cooperation to ensure that all transport sub-sectors make an optimal contribution to the Paris Agreement ́s objectives.

As the world’s leading mail and logistics company serving millions of corporate, public and private customers every day Deutsche Post DHL Group will make a significant contribution to decarbonising supply chains before 2050 and capture the benefits of being at the forefront of the global decarbonisation of transport.

In 2008, Deutsche Post DHL Group was the first global logistics company to set a quantifiable climate protection goal – to improve carbon efficiency by 30% over 2007 levels by the year 2020. The Group reached this goal in 2016 – four years ahead of schedule. Building on the experiences gained, Deutsche Post DHL Group established its ambitious environmental strategy “Mission 2050: Zero Emissions” in 2017, with a long-term target of reducing logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050. Over and above this the company set four interim goals for 2025 – to increase carbon efficiency by 50% compared to 2007 levels, to reduce local air pollution emissions by operating 70% of its first and last mile services with clean pick-up and delivery solutions, such as bicycles and electric vehicles, and to have more than 50% of sales incorporate Green Solutions as part of a targeted effort to make its customers’ supply chains greener. The final interim goal involves certifying 80% of employees as GoGreen specialists and encouraging their involvement in environmental and climate protection activities. This includes joining partners to plant one million trees each year to protect our forests and support reforestation efforts.

As a member Deutsche Post DHL Group will inter alia work together with other TDA Members on specific topics to accelerate the decarbonisation of transport. The 18 TDA Members so far are: Countries (6): Costa Rica, Finland, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Portugal; Cities (5): Rotterdam (Netherlands), Lisbon, Porto, Gaia, Matosinhos (Portugal) and Companies (7): Alstom, CEiiA, Deutsche Post DHL, EDP, ITAIPU Binancional, Michelin, and PTV.
