CTS Mexico and ITDP promote sustainable transport at the Latin American Regional Consultation for Post-2015 Agenda

Guadalajara, Mexico-06 May 2013

Two members of the Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT), CTS EMBARQ Mexico and Institute for Transportation and Development Policies (ITDP) participated in the Regional consultation “Realizing the Future We Want in Latin America and the Caribbean: towards a Development Agenda post-2015”, which was held in Guadalajara, Mexico.  The goal of the consultation meeting was to put together regional key actors to discuss the progress of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to formulate recommendations for the next development agenda. The conference, organized by the Government of Mexico, provided a forum to discuss and enhance regional perspectives in the post-2015 process adding to the national and thematic consultations and to the meetings held by the High-level Panel of Eminent Persons (HLP).

The main objectives of CTS EMBARQ Mexico and ITDP at the consultation meeting were to bring up the importance of sustainable transport as part of the international development agenda, considering it as a key area to enable economic and social progress and environmental equilibrium and to raise the profile of transport in ongoing discussions on a new post-2020 global agreement on Climate Change.  In the outcome document of the meeting, several lines were dedicated to sustainable transport: “Universal access to safe, clean and affordable transport”, “Real alternatives to reach sustainable transport”, “Goals and indicators to measure the reduction of fossil oil consumption”.

Please see Guadalajara Report on Post-2015 Consultation for more details about the meeting.
