Making Sustainable Development Real for All with Universal Access to Safe, Clean, Affordable Transport

One billion people in the world live with disability.  On 19-20 July, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) organized the “DESA Forum:  Dialogue on the post-2015 Development Framework and Disability” at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Forum brought together a wide range of stakeholders to discuss a way forward for inclusion of disability in the development agenda and frameworks.

EMBARQ announces 2013 Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship Recipients

EMBARQ and the Lee Schipper family are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship. The sustainable transport scholarship has been awarded to Sudhir Gota and to Fei Li to finance their research in advancing bold solutions to improve transport quality in cities. The scholarship was established in 2012 to celebrate the vision and bold challenges to conventional wisdom that EMBARQ founder and recognized researcher Lee Schipper contributed to the field of sustainable transport and energy efficiency.

The GEF Council approved a World Bank Sustainable Transport project in Russia

On June 20, 2013, the 44th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF)’s Governing Council approved a  $369.82 million Work Program, consisting of 48 project concepts and two programmatic approaches.  The Work Program includes a World Bank sustainable transport project in Russian Federation titled “National Urban Transport Improvement Project.”  For the project, the GEF finances 9.1 million USD grant with co-finance of 270 million USD.
