Delivering Sustainable Transport: Keeping the Flame from Rio+20 Alive

On 22 May 2014, Asian Development Bank and the Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) will organize a side event during the Annual Summit of the International Transport Forum on in Leipzig, Germany. The event titled “Delivering Sustainable Transport: Keeping the Flame from Rio+20 Alive” will present six initiatives on low carbon transport being developed for the Climate Summit convened by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for September 2014.
The six transport initiatives are covered under four high-impact areas:
- Transport, International Union of Railways Initiative, International Association of Public Transport (UITP) Declaration on Climate Leadership, Urban Electronic Mobility Vehicles Initiative;
- Cities, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) ‘Global BRT Alliance’;
- Energy Efficiency, Global Fuel Economy Initiative;
- Short-Lived Climate Pollutants, Green Freight Global Plan of Action.

The joint ADB-SLoCaT session will also report on progress on commitments made at Rio+20 on sustainable transport, including the pledge of $175 billion for more sustainable transport in developing countries by eight Multilateral Development Banks.
