International Workshop: Soot-Free Urban Bus Fleets in Asian Cities
27 October 2016 @ 12:00 pm
The International Council of Clean Transportation (ICCT) is organizing the International Workshop on Soot-Free Buses in Asian Cities, in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 27-28 October 2016.
The Diesel Initiative of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition established the Soot-Free Urban Bus Fleets project to assist 20 cities to shift to a soot-free urban bus fleet. On behalf of the CCAC, the ICCT and KPBB with the government of DKI Jakarta will host industry representatives and public officials to assess common barriers, share lessons, and identify strategies to achieve the stated goals of the Initiative in Asian cities. Representatives from Bangkok, Manila, Dhaka, and Jakarta will present actions their cities are taking, obstacles they are facing, and support they will need to transition to a soot-free urban bus fleet. Industry stakeholders will present the potential for fuel and engine technology to deliver soot-free buses in Asian cities. Over the course of this event, participants will identify common challenges to procure soot-free buses, and will identify actions to overcome them.
The goal of the meetings is to bring together regional expertise to assist major cities to identify and shape a commitment to a soot-free urban bus fleet.
The project was launched in 2015 by the CCAC Diesel Initiative to secure commitments from 20 cities around the world to shift all future bus purchases towards soot-free engines. The first six of these cities to adopt a commitment will receive technical assistance to implement their commitment.
The ICCT is implementing this project jointly with the UN Environment Programme as well as the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and the Centro Mario Molina Chile.
