Following the 2014, 2015, and 2016 successful experience of tracking UNFCCC Negotiations from a transport perspective in COP20, COP21, and COP22, the PPMC is once again tracking how transport is reflected in negotiations at COP23 in Bonn, Germany.

The daily reports will keep the readers up-to-date on transport-related action at COP23; these reports aim to shine a light on the key developments and main insights of their relevance for the transport sector (please see PPMC’s glossary of technical terms). In this context, PPMC will focus on the following six key messages for throughout the course of COP23:

Summaries of selected transport side events at COP23 are presented in the report. The daily report also highlights the MPGCA Transport Initiatives and the Global Macro Roadmap components. A list of forthcoming transport events is also included.

The 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP23) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was convened in Bonn, Germany in November 2017 to build upon the pledge of action established at COP22 Marrakech, and to emphasize the need for clear action and rapid progress toward a 1.5-degree Celsius scenario (1.5DS), the aspirational goal of the Paris Agreement on climate change. This final summary report is a culmination of a series of daily reports on COP23 by the Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) under the Paris Process on Mobility and Climate (PPMC) to highlight implications for sustainable transport in the UNFCCC process and to emphasize opportunities for greater engagement in this process for non-Party actors, including the global transport sector.
