UNEP Releases Green Economy Modelling Report of South Africa

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched a report titled ‘Green Economy Modelling Report of South Africa – Focus on Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Transport and Energy Sectors,’ developed with technical assistance from the Millennium Institute and the Sustainability Institute, in collaboration with the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies of the Stellenbosch University. The study assesses the impacts of green investments in four of the country’s key economic sectors: agriculture, energy, transport and natural resource management.

WESS 2013 Report Focuses on Energy, Food Security and Sustainable Cities

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) launched the World Economic and Social Survey (WESS) 2013, subtitled ‘Sustainable Development Challenges,’ in Geneva, Switzerland. The 2013 report focuses on three sustainable development challenges identified for action at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20): energy transformation; food security and nutrition; and sustainable cities.

GEO-5 Report Highlights Impacts of a Changing Environment on Business

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), together with SustainAbility and the Green Light Group, has released a report titled ‘GEO-5 for Business: Impacts of a Changing Environment on the Corporate Sector.’ Based on UNEP’s Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-5), the report offers an analysis of specific risks faced by the construction, chemicals, mining, food, and other industries, and suggests ways in which businesses can adjust to create long-term competitive advantages.

CIF Reports on Mozambique's Strategic Programme for Climate Resilience

CIF has reported on the implementation of Mozambique’s US$100 million strategic programme for climate resilience. The Government of Mozambique, together with the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), is developing climate-resilient projects envisioning policy and institutional change in several sectors, such as agriculture, coastal cities, transport, water management, forestry and learning.

ITU Launches Third Green ICT Application Challenge

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has launched the Third Green Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Application Challenge, in collaboration with Telefónica. The Challenge invites submissions in the following areas: adaptation to climate change; management of energy, water, health services or waste; town planning, including smart buildings; smart sustainable societies, community participation and environmental education; and transport and mobility.
