Winnie Mitullah

Winnie V. Mitullah is Associate Research Professor of Development Studies based at the Institute for Development Studies, University of Nairobi. Her background is in political science and public administration specializing on local governance. Her special focus is in institutional framework, including policies, regulations, and stakeholders that inform provision and management of urban services. Her most recent publications in transport are: journal article on “Mainstreaming Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) in Policy & Planning in Nairobi”, two co-authored chapters in the book “Paratransit in African Cities: Operations, Regulations and Reform,” and an edited book on “Non-Motorised Transport Integration into Urban Transport Planning in Africa,” due for publication by Routledge in 2017. She is a member of several boards including the Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT), and the Eastern Africa region director for Afrobarometer Surveys. Mitullah has a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Government from the University of Nairobi, and a PhD from the University of York, United Kingdom.
