European Cyclists' Federation (ECF)
The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) is pledged to ensure that bicycle use achieves its fullest potential so as to bring about sustainable mobility and public well-being in Europe and beyond.
The purpose of the ECF is namely to promote and encourage cycling in the countries of Europe and beyond as an economic, effective, healthy, and environmentally respectful means of transport and recreation, and to enhance the status of cycling and to promote the recognition of its benefits for the individual as well as for society as a whole.
To achieve these aims, the ECF namely seeks to change attitudes, policies and budget allocations and stimulates and organizes the exchange of information and expertise on bicycle related transport policies and strategies as well as the work of the cyclists’ movement.
The ECF also organizes the Velo-city series of conferences, which are widely considered as the premier international planning conferences on cycling. The conferences are designed to encourage cycling as part of daily transport and recreation.
More specifically, some objectives of the Velo-city series are:
- Spread high quality knowledge, good new information about cycling, and transport planning at the international level.
- Encourage the recognition of cycling as an efficient, healthy, environmentally-friendly mode of transport, and to promote its greater use.
- Integration of cycle planning into transport, land-use planning and other relevant policy sectors where cycling plays an important role.
