SLoCaT co-organizes UN Bike Ride in Support of Rio+20 – Kick Off by UN SG Ban Ki-moon
The Netherlands Mission to the United Nations organizes a UN Bike Ride on June 8th to promote bicycling as a means of sustainable low carbon urban transport in light of the upcoming Conference on Sustainable Development that will take place in Rio de Janeiro end of June.
UN Secretary-General, H.E. Mr. Ban-Ki-moon, will give welcoming remarks and the kick-off of the UN Bike Ride, along with the Commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation, Ms. Janette Sadik-Khan, and other dignitaries. Participants are the Ambassadors of the member states of the UN, high UN officials and NGO representatives.
The bike ride will start at 5.00 p.m. in front of the UN (45th and 1st Av) with a photo opportunity for the media and continue up to 51st street, turning east to the finish line at Beekman Place.
The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), the Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT), UN-DESA and the Dutch Cycling Embassy are co-organizing the event.
