The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) has approved a grant of US $950,000 to help Nigeria prepare for a proposed project to revamp Abuja’s mass transit system. The request for the project preparation money was submitted to the CIF by the Government of Nigeria and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Action Network on Sustainable Transport integrates different initiatives on sustainable, low carbon transport. It is an action-oriented communities where stakeholders may collaborate and share information on sustainable transport – it is meant to catalyze actions among all stakeholders and their networks to implement concrete policies, plans, programmes and projects in support of sustainable transport.
ADB estimates that 80% of Asia’s economic growth will be generated in its urban areas, supported by migrants in search of jobs and economic opportunities. Sustainable urban transport solutions are crucial to mitigate the growing congestion and pollution in the region’s sprawling urban centers.
The Partnership on Sustainable, Low-Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) (www.slocat.net) and the Bridging the Gap (BtG) Initiative (www.transport2020.org) presented a submission in response to the call of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP) for inputs to its deliberations.
