Feasibility Study – integrated social business model for e-bikes in Vietnamese cities

The report studies the feasibility of an integrated social business model for solar-charged e-bikes in Vietnam. The study determines that it is feasible to establish the model in regards to profitability, design parameters, market conditions and budget. A challenge in the market is however, the new nature of the business model as a social enterprise/pro-poor business – Vietnamese regulations do not specifically recognize the challenges and practices involved in this kind of operation.

The evaluation of the Direct Service Concept in Jakarta, Indonesia shows that it can have a positive impact on efficiency of transportation systems in cities. It offers local and global environmental benefits and significant time savings for users, and drivers, as well as financial saving on capital costs. Further, the results show an increase in ridership, satisfaction and frequency in service.

New Report Calls on GEF to Prioritize Transport in GEF-6 to Support Sustainable Development and Climate Change Progress

New York, New York- From November 5-7, the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) meets at the World Bank to set its investment strategy for the coming years. A new report offers recommendations for how GEF can deliver better progress to address transportation, the fastest growing source of energy related climate change pollution. GEF is a small but vital source of funding for low-carbon pilot projects and capacity building in the transport sector for dozens of countries.

Nordic Development Fund (NDF)

The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) is the joint development finance institution of the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The objective of NDF’s operations is to facilitate climate change investments in low-income countries.  NDF finances in cooperation with bilateral and multilateral development institutions. The operations mirror the Nordic countries’ priorities in the areas of climate change and development. The operations are financed from the development cooperation budgets of the five Nordic countries.
