New Report Calls on GEF to Prioritize Transport in GEF-6 to Support Sustainable Development and Climate Change Progress

New York, New York- From November 5-7, the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) meets at the World Bank to set its investment strategy for the coming years. A new report offers recommendations for how GEF can deliver better progress to address transportation, the fastest growing source of energy related climate change pollution. GEF is a small but vital source of funding for low-carbon pilot projects and capacity building in the transport sector for dozens of countries.

Nordic Development Fund (NDF)

The Nordic Development Fund (NDF) is the joint development finance institution of the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The objective of NDF’s operations is to facilitate climate change investments in low-income countries.  NDF finances in cooperation with bilateral and multilateral development institutions. The operations mirror the Nordic countries’ priorities in the areas of climate change and development. The operations are financed from the development cooperation budgets of the five Nordic countries.

UNIFE (The European Rail Industry)

UNIFE is an association that represents the European Rail Industry. UNIFE gathers 76 of Europe’s leading large and medium-sized rail supply companies active in the design, manufacture, maintenance and refurbishment of rail transport systems, subsystems and related equipment. A further one thousand suppliers of railway equipment partake in UNIFE activities through 15 national rail industry associations. UNIFE members have an 80% market share in Europe and supply more than 50% of the worldwide production of rail equipment and services.

Leading Corporations Join Forces to Tackle Freight Emissions in Asia

Leading corporations established Green Freight Asia, a non-profit association of manufacturers, freight logistics companies and carriers to advance green freight efforts that promote greenhouse gas- and fuel-efficient freight transportation and decrease air pollution in Asia.
