The preparatory meeting of the 2nd Sustainable Transport Forum in Latin America (FTS-LAC) will be organized on October 29-30, 2013 in Santiago de Chile, hosted by United Nations Economic Commission for Latin American Countries.
Based on the successful experience of the Environmentally Sustainable Transport Forums in Asia organized by UNCRD since 2005, the First Sustainable Transport Forum for Latin America (Foro de Transporte Sostenible para América Latina – FTS LAC) was held in Bogotá during June 22-24, 2011, and had participation from ministry-level representations of 11 countries. The main outcome of that First Forum was the adoption of the Bogotá Declaration. It was also agreed in principle to have a Second Forum to follow-up on the progress on the agreements made with the Bogotá Declaration in 2011.
With the support of UNCRD and its Latin America office, ECLAC (CEPAL) and its main office in Santiago de Chile, the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), various partners have met during 2012 and 2013 to start preparing the Second Forum. With financial support from ECLAC, IDB and CAF, other organizations (SLoCaT, ITDP and EMBARQ) have moved forward in coordinating the preparation of the Forum by collecting data from countries that participated in the First Forum, as well developing an overview of the implementation status of the Bogota Declaration.
SLoCaT is developing a draft report on data collection results and analysis, implementation status of the Bogota Declaration, as well as initial proposals on the continuation of the FTS-LAC as a background document for the preparatory meeting.
