On 24 May about 20 of the SLoCaT members met in Manila for the first SLoCaT annual meeting. See below for the agenda and presentations made.

MORNING SESSION

ADB Transport Forum: Changing Course – Pathways to Sustainable Transport

Background
The transport sector needs to Change Course in order to ensure sustainable growth in the Asia Pacific region. It is now clear that a business as usual scenario is unsustainable and the need to change and move along a different growth pathway is driven by a range of economic, social and environmental challenges, including climate change, congestion, and the provision of basic mobility.

Better Air Quality Conferences

The Better Air Quality (BAQ) conference is Asia’s largest gathering of air quality stakeholders from government, civil society, academe, private sector, and the international development community. First organized as a local workshop by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2001, BAQs have become major regional events through the efforts of the Clean Air Initiative for Asian Cities Center (CAI-Asia) and its partners. CAI-Asia has co-organized regional BAQ conferences in Hong Kong (2002), Philippines (2003), India (2004), Indonesia (2006), Thailand (2008), and Singapore (2010).

On the 6th day of COP16 in Cancun, Bridging the Gap took part in a side event on “Transport in NAMAs and National Communications”, hosted by the Inter-American Bank, the Asia Development Bank, SLoCaT partnership, Bridging the Gap and ITDP.

Transport Research Board Meeting 90th Annual Meeting

The TRB Annual Meeting program covers all transportation modes, with more than 4,000 presentations in nearly 650 sessions and workshops addressing topics of interest to all attendees—policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. More than 85 sessions and workshops will address the spotlight theme for 2011: Transportation, Livability, and Economic Development in a Changing World.
