Transport Greenhouse Gas Emissions Research Briefs
In addition to more comprehensive reports on transport GHG emissions, SLoCaT is producing a series of research briefs for transport emissions trends, which include but are not limited to, the following:
Analysis of Global Transport Emissions Trends
This research brief illustrates national and regional transport emissions trends in three areas: (1) the transport sector share of emissions relative to total emissions from fuel combustion, (2) the growth of transport sector emissions, and (3) the absolute and per-capita emissions from transport, as normalized by a number of key variables.
Analysis of Transport in World Energy Outlook 2015 Special Report
This research brief summarizes the key observations offered by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and their implications for the transport sector.
Analysis of Transport in Global Climate Legislation Study
This research brief analyses the Global Climate Legislation Study by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment from a transport perspective. It aligns relevant national transport legislation and policy direction with their corresponding national emission targets from the transport sector. This is presented as a database. SLoCaT found a promising list of 47 transport-related policies from the full list of 98 countries covered in the study.
Renewable energy and transport Decarbonising Fuel in the Transport Sector
The research brief shows increases in renewable energy in the transport sector are required and can be implemented with a set of concerted strategies but in the process of increasing electrification of transport. For electric vehicles, it is important to consider how electricity is generated (and in addition, to consider the proximity of these emissions to populated areas).
Details of these points, an overview of current measures taken by various countries and recommendations from SLoCaT in this manner are presented in our SloCat_Renewable Energy Research Brief.
A detailed outline and objectives of the existing and forthcoming knowledge products are presented in the GHG methodological note.
To guide the SLoCaT Partnership in its ongoing work on transport sector GHG analysis, it is intended to establish a review panel of external experts. The review panel can also play a role in recommending research directions after COP21. If you are interested to participate in the review panel, please contact Karl Peet at karl.peet@slocatpartnership.org.
