Scaling Up Action on Sustainable Urban Transport in the Context of Habitat III–A German Habitat Forum Mobility Working Session

3 June 2016 @ 9:00 am

Transport and Mobility are expected to be a key part of the New Urban Agenda, the outcome document of the Habitat III conference in October 2016 in Quito, Ecuador.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the German Agency forInternational Cooperation (GIZ), the Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) and the World Resources Institute hosted a 4-hour interactive session to:

  1. Reflect on the text in the New Urban Agenda through the lens of mobility and develop concrete suggestions for improvement, including specific solutions and a clear reporting framework for transport actions included in the New Urban Agenda
  2. Identify ways to leverage the Habitat III process and the resulting New Urban Agenda to mobilize action for mobility, possibly through the development of a Quito Action Plan on Sustainable Urban Transport. How to link the different ongoing multi-stakeholder initiatives to the Habitat III process and its outcome in order to create increased momentum and commitments for action on sustainable transport post-Quito.

This mobility work session brought together approximately 25 key decision makers and thought leaders on urban development and mobility and will include country and city delegates as well as experts from organizations and development organizations with a dedicated focus on sustainable urban transport.
