During the Asia-Pacific Climate Week (APCD) 2018 in Singapore from 10 to 13 July, SLoCaT will organize in cooperation with CDP, CCAC, ICC, UITP and UNEP the Marrakech Partnership on Global Climate Action event on urban mobility. The title of the session is:
“Transport in cities – Parties and Non party stakeholders working together to deliver low carbon urban mobility”
Background
The fight against climate change will be won or lost in cities, so making urban mobility low carbon, universal and resilient is essential to tackling climate change and making cities attractive and successful. Low carbon urban mobility requires comprehensive strategies to avoid, reduce and improve transport. Such actions are affordable, have been successfully tested at scale and bring significant sustainable development co-benefits. Parties that adopted the Paris Agreement however, cannot do this alone – sucessful implementation requires concerted action between Parties and non-Party stakeholders. This event will explore the current status and necessary steps to scale up action on urban mobility to tackle climate change in the Asia Pacific region and how Parties and and non-Party stakeholders can improve and accelerate action.
Objective
1) Raise ambition and improve the treatment of urban mobility in the next round of Nationally Determined Contributions from Parties in the region and
2) Stimulate co-operation between Parties and and non-Party stakeholders to deliver sustainable, low carbon urban mobility, by sharing and discussing experiences on necessary policy frameworks and best practices in fostering these partnerships.
This event will explore the current status and necessary steps to scale up action on urban mobility to tackle climate change in the Asia Pacific region and how Parties and and non-Party stakeholders can improve and accelerate action.
