The Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) is leading the production of a regular Transport and Climate Change Global Status Report (TCC-GSR) to bring together information streams on transport and climate change and to offer policy-makers and practitioners three key elements:
This inaugural edition of the TCC-GSR is intended to be a resource for policy-makers to raise ambition on climate mitigation and adaptation in sustainable transport policies and actions by countries, cities, states and provinces, and private sector companies. Over 100 individuals from 40 transport- or transport-related organizations were involved in the development of the report.
The report offers trends analyses supported by 180 policy examples from 70 countries to help increase awareness of the urgent need to address carbon intensive mobility. Findings show that transport demand continues to grow. Between 2000 and 2015, modal share in most countries shifted towards private automobiles and air travel, and away from public transport services. Additionally, surface freight activity increased by 177% during the same period. The increase in demand has contributed to the raise in CO2 emissions from the transport sector CO2 emissions, which grew from 5.8 Gt in 2000 to 7.5 Gt in 2016, an increase of 29%.
