SSTAP Meeting of Ministers of Environment

An SSATP side event was organized in Nairobi, Kenya at the time of the UNEP Governing Council meeting to inform the Ministers of Environment in Africa about the initiative to create the ESTF and the objectives of the forum. Representatives from countries, UNEP, UNDESA, UNCRD, UN Habitat and African Development Bank attended the event.

Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF)

The sixth edition of the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) will continue to serve as a high-powered platform to promote solutions for a low carbon future and sustainable city development. Initiated and actively led by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR), MIECF is strategically positioned to nurture business, technology and information exchange and co-operation between the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region in Southern China and the international markets.

Kick-Off Meeting for Rio+20 Sustainable Transport Pledge Impact Assessment Initiative

This meeting will discuss the first phase of a global impact assessment of the MDB Rio+20 sustainable transport pledge and related voluntary commitments. ITDP, in collaboration with the Institute for Transportation Studies at University of California Davis (ITS-Davis), the International Energy Agency, and other members of the Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport, is organizing this meeting to guide the initial phase of this initiative.

Friends of Sustainable Transport Lunch Session on Road Safety and Sustainable Transport

Traffic Congestion in Cities

Ever increasing Traffic congestion has become a major problem in rapidly growing cities. The health effects of urban air pollution alone are estimated to cost more than 5% of the GDP in developing countries. The Event will bring to the attention of Policy Makers and Planners, the problem of city congestion and the impact it has on cities. Measuring the problem is major step in solving it. Strategies to address the issue include better public transport, street connectivity and modern telematics.

Environmentally Sustainable Transport Forum for Africa

The establishment of the Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) Forum for Africa will be a critical platform for high-level discussions on the interconnected areas of common interest on transport, environment, human health and human settlements. It will be integrated into the emerging architecture of regional ESTs (Asia and Latin America) to enable Africa to participate when issues of sustainable transport and development are discussed in the context of post-2015 development goals.
