UN Decade of Sustainable Transport : The Case for a Unified Global Goal to Support the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport
SLOCAT’s team has authored an article in the latest edition of the Transport and Communications Bulletin for Asia and the Pacific, No. 96.
The article gather around one ask from the whole community: a unified global goal for transport with clear and measurable targets, anchored in the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport.
With transport policy fragmented across multiple frameworks and commitments, a shared global goal can provide a “North Star” for governments, financiers and stakeholders, aligning action around a common direction.
Asia and the Pacific are central to this transition. The region accounts for 97% of the world’s electric two- and three-wheelers, with nearly 400 million units globally in 2024. China accounted for two-thirds of new metro system openings in 2024, while Indian Railways reached 98% electrification of its broad-gauge network in 2025.
A shared global goal can turn transport ambition into a clear pathway for action, investment and accountability and opportunity we can’t miss.
