Tomorrow’s Transport Leaders, Today
Bridging Generations of Transport Leaders
Young professionals have a pivotal position in the global transport community, bringing fresh perspectives, innovative approaches, and a long-term horizon that enables transformative change. Their engagement is critical to designing transport solutions that are inclusive, climate-smart, and resilient, capable of addressing the urgent environmental, social, and economic challenges of our time while laying the foundations for sustainable transport for generations to come.
Recognising this potential, SLOCAT and Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF) have been jointly working with young professionals since 2019 through the programme Young Leaders in Sustainable Transport. This initiative builds critical bridges between emerging professionals and the global transport community.
In 2025, the 5th cohort of Young Leaders joined the programme:
Ayodeji Stephen Adekanbi (Nigeria), specialised in hydrogen applications and electrification for transport decarbonisation.
Benter Atieno Agutu (Kenya), specialised in road safety for vulnerable road users, and active mobility and infrastructure assessment.
Olanike Christiana Babalola (Nigeria), specialised in sustainable urban freight and “smart freight” innovation for resilient logistics.
Steffel Ludivin Feudjio Tezong (Cameroon), specialised in transport infrastructure and transport planning.
Mohammed Musah (Ghana), specialised in urban mobility and transit-oriented development.
With this fresh cohort of Young Leaders, we published Bridging Generations: Youth Perspectives on Transforming Transport for Climate and Justice. The Young Leaders share their insights on effective climate action in transport, drawing on expertise across energy, freight transport, road safety, and transit-oriented development. Each contributor highlights the benefits of a specific action, outlines what a Global Goal for Transport could encompass, and identifies synergies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Collectively, their work demonstrates the vital role that young professionals and youth play in advancing and implementing transformative transport solutions.
