SLoCaT Partnership is Collaborating with the Transformative Actions Program (TAP) At COP 21

The SLoCaT Partnership is pleased to announce that it has joined the Transformative Actions Program (TAP) as a partner.

The TAP, coordinated by ICLEI, aims to accelerate implementation of climate action of local and subnational governments by scaling up their direct investments and engagement in national and global mechanisms.

The program was developed to improve access to existing capital flows to cities and regions, catalyzing and accelerating additional capital flows, and maximizing investment in low-carbon and climate-resilient urban development and governance processes. It is a long-term action program that will collect and present ambitious, cross-cutting, multi-sectorial, inclusive and innovative mitigation and/or adaptation actions led by local and subnational governments.

The TAP will be officially launched at the UN Paris Climate Change Conference (COP21/CMP11) to be held in Paris-Le Bourget, France on 30 November - 11 December 2015.

Through the TAP, every year during the COP meetings of the UNFCCC, a number of well-defined, ready-to-accelerate transformative actions will be brought to the attention of international climate negotiations and implementation partners. At this stage 100 proposals per year are envisaged, fairly representing local and subnational governments of different sizes around the globe.

During both phases – pre and post-2020 - TAP objectives will be translated into action through the following four action pillars:

1. TAP Project Pipeline: Selection of 100 TAP frontrunner cities and regions every year; support with application and project proposal development;

2. TAP Platform: Online Platform that visibilizes action potential in a structured, unified format. It will act as a information and communication facilitation for local/ regional governments and funding bodies;

3. TAP Advocacy for Accelerated Climate Action: advocacy aiming at mobilizing cities and regions and raise sustained awareness among multi-level governance, effective vertical integration, and new financing mechanism;

4. TAP Pavilion: Kick-off at COP21 and will be present in every future COP thereafter to provide a space for showcasing TAP projects to a multi-actor public.

The TAP currently calls for project applications from subnational authorities that are transformative and inclusive. This is an excellent opportunity for the sustainable transport community to showcase innovative projects for sustainable transport at the upcoming COP21. We strongly encourage SLoCaT Partnership members and other transport stakeholders to submit ideas directly to ICLEI.

For more information on the application process and timeline, please refer to the flyer and the concept document on TAP or contact Marie-Sophie Beier, COP 21/ TAP Coordinator, at tap@iclei.org. The soft deadline for submission of projects is August 15th and no submissions are accepted after September 15.
