Nordic Development Fund (NDF) has recently approved two new transport adaptation projects that will develop adaptive capacity and integration of climate change aspects into planning and design of road transport infrastructure. In Mozambique, NDF, together with the African Development Bank (AfDB), will support the National Road Administration, and other key stakeholders, with capacity-building and additional tools to manage climate impact threats to road development.
UNEP Publishes Reports on Low Carbon Transport and City Planning in India
Three reports released by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) evaluate and summarize options for low carbon city planning, non-motorised transport (NMT) and infrastructure risks due to climate variability in India. The reports were published as part of the project on ‘Promoting Low Carbon Transport in India.’
UNFCCC's Momentum for Change 2012 Report Focuses on the Urban Poor
The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the 2012 report on the Momentum for Change Initiative. The report features nine experiences that contribute to address climate change while improving livelihoods and living conditions in developing countries’ urban areas.
EEA 2013 Work Programme to Address Air Pollution, Climate Change, Energy
The European Environment Agency (EEA) released its “Annual Management Plan 2013” outlining the EEA work programme which will address a broad range of issues including: air quality and noise; air pollutant emissions; climate change mitigation; climate change adaptation; energy; and transport.
UNEP Risø Centre Newsletter Highlights TNA Project and Electrification in Africa
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UNEP Risø Centre (URC) December’s newsletter includes stories on the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) project and electrification in Africa, including efforts within the Sustainable Energy For All Initiative (SE4ALL). The newsletter also features several stories on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), including capacity building projects in the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) region.
UNFCCC Secretariat Offsets Carbon Footprint with Adaptation Fund CERs
The UNFCCC Secretariat has achieved its aim of full climate neutrality by the end of 2012, through emission avoidance and reduction, plus an offsetting scheme using Adaptation Fund (AF) Certified Emissions Reductions (CERs) for the remaining balance. The UNFCCC Secretariat encourages other UN agencies and intergovernmental organizations to do the same.
Event: Group of Experts on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation for International Transport Networks: Fifth Session
The Fifth Session of the Group of Experts on climate change impacts and adaptation or international transport networks will convene 7 December 2012 in Geneva, Switzerland. Items on the provisional agenda include, inter alia: discussion on the Report of the Group of Experts; and Replies to the Questionnaire for collecting information on existing and potential climate change impacts on transport, as well as degree of preparedness and relevant policies for adaptation.
