University of Michigan SMART Initiative launches MobiPrize for sustainable transport awards

University of Michigan SMART initiative, supported by Rockefeller Foundation launched the MobiPrize and is calling for applicaticants. The MobiPrize is an award honoring entrepreneurial ventures that are changing the world–helping to improve the quality of life and revitalize the environment and economy of communities and regions through sustainable transportation (New Mobility).

MobiPrize 2014 will be awarded at the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) World Congress in Detroit in September. The World Congress event will bring together over 10,000 transportation professionals, engineers, planners, business leaders, innovators, elected officials and public sector representatives from the U.S. and around the world.

The awards are handed out in three categories;  

  • Grand Mobi: This is a $15,000 award for the business venture that has the greatest impact on improving quality of life, addressing human rights, improving safety and revitalizing the environment and economy of communities and regions through sustainable transportation/New Mobility. 
  • MobiPrize for Michigan Entrepreneurs: This is a $5,000 award for Michigan-based entrepreneurs who, through their innovative New Mobility technology, service, product and/or infrastructure are contributing to the Michigan region and economy. 
  • Enterprising City/State Award: For 2014, SMART Mobiprize has partnered with ICLEI Ecomobility to create an award of recognition for City/State governments and government owned agency/public enterprise that have demonstrated active efforts to build a culture of innovation and encourage entrepreneurship in sustainable transportation. This award will launch at the OECD International Transport Forum (ITF) Annual Summit.
