SLoCaT Input to the High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda and SLoCaT-Bridging the Gap input on MRV of Domestic NAMAs to SBSTA

The Partnership on Sustainable, Low-Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) provided inputs to the report by the High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on Post-2015 Development Agenda and together with the Bridging the Gap Initiative made a submission to the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technology Advice (SBSTA) of the United Framework Convention on Climate Change
“The Future We Want” the outcome document of the Rio+20 Conference states “Transport and mobility are central to sustainable development”. To promote the integration of sustainable transport in the report of the HLP of Eminent Persons on the post 2015 development agenda SLoCaT prepared the document, “Defining the Contribution of Sustainable Transport to the Post 2015 Framework on Sustainable Development”. The document describes the critical contribution of transport to sustainable development and makes recommendations for the integration of sustainable transport in the post 2015 framework for sustainable development, including Sustainable Development Goals.
Transport is currently the second largest sector in terms of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) proposed by developing countries. As a follow-up to the results of the Ad-Hoc Working Group on Long Term Cooperative Action, the SBSTA is now discussing the arrangements for the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) of NAMAs. The joint SLoCaT and Bridging the Gap submission on MRV of domestic NAMAs argues that it is important that guidelines on NAMA MRV reflect the specific characteristics of transport and that it will enable the transport sector to make its contribution towards mitigation of Climate Change.
