In The Long Short Walk video, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Anthony Lake and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Deputy Development Policy Director Magdy Martínez-Solimán call for road safety to be included in the Post-2015 development agenda.

The Long Short Walk is a global campaign advocating for safe for roads for all. The campaign led by the Make Roads Safe Campaign and the Mandela Family, calls for road safety to be included in the sustainable development goals.

Globally road injury is number one cause of death for young people aged 15-29.  In The Long Short Walk video, the UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake states that every year 10 million children are injured or disabled due to traffic accidents.  The situation especially affects the poor families.  90% of road accidents occur in the poorest countries around the world, and in most cases these accidents are preventable.  According to, UNDP Deputy Development Policy Director Magdy Martínez-Solimán, achieving road safety goals will lead to economically vibrant societies which protect their people and the sustainability of the planet for next generations.
