SLOCAT Task Force on Transport Community Engagement in the UNFCCC

Jun 2, 2022

Throughout 2021, the SLOCAT Secretariat jointly with partners set up the SLOCAT Task Force on Transport Community Engagement in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Following strategy discussions and inputs with task force members, the Secretariat developed a SLOCAT Five Year Strategy for Engagement in UNFCCC. As adopted by the task force, this strategy is guiding SLOCAT’s engagement in the UNFCCC process over the period 2021 – 2025. The strategy:

  • Focuses on our multiple interactions in the UNFCCC process (e.g. official events, consultations, UN Conferences on Climate Change COPs, Regional Climate Weeks, Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (MPGCA), technical workshops) and aligns our activities with the five-year cycle of the Paris Agreement.
  • Includes eight principles for successful engagement: Consistent, Competent, Timely, Relevant, Related, Equitable and Inclusive and Robust.
  • Focuses on the whole year-long UNFCCC process rather than on specific physical meetings, with wide variety of engagement methods.
  • SLOCAT´s role as Co-Focal Point for the engagement of the Transport Sector in the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (MPGCA)is separate but complementary to the strategy.
