SLOCAT Welcomes Greenpeace International and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) as New Partners

SLOCAT is excited to welcome Greenpeace International and the International Transport Workers’ Federation as new partners in its international, multi-stakeholder ecosystem of world-class experts and change-makers. Both organisations bring unique perspectives and values that will help power our movement towards a just transition for equitable, healthy, green and resilient transport and mobility systems for the people and the planet.

As a global frontrunner in environmental advocacy, Greenpeace uses peaceful protest and creative communication to expose environmental problems and promote solutions for a sustainable future. Its Vision for Sustainable Mobility outlines six concepts – accessible, affordable, safe, climate-friendly, connected and socially just – combined to create better, cleaner mobility and more freedom for everyone. This vision was produced for a variety of transport-related topics with emphasis on a justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and safety lens. Informed by the SLOCAT Transport, Climate and Sustainability Global Status Report and other key SLOCAT partners such as the Global Network for Popular Transportation, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy and the International Transport Workers’ Federation, the vision aligns well with SLOCAT’s vision.

We are delighted to join the SLOCAT Partnership.
Mobility solutions which reduce emissions and inequalities will vary from country to country, but working together will be essential everywhere.
Collaboration through SLOCAT’s network will help us build winning campaigns as we work to improve mobility for all.

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is a democratic, affiliate-led global union federation that represents around 18.5 million transport workers through over 700 trade unions in about 150 countries. ITF’s mission is to improve the working lives of transport workers globally, promoting social justice and labour rights. The federation works across a range of transport sectors, including aviation, maritime, railways and road transport, advocating for fair treatment, decent working conditions and the empowerment of workers in the face of global challenges such as automation, climate change and economic inequality.

ITF has been an active collaborator with SLOCAT over the past years, working together on joint submissions to the UNFCCC Just Transition Work Programme, analysing approaches to prioritise a just transition for transport in Nationally Determined Contributions and co-authoring the blog titled “A Just Transition for Transport Workers: The Foundation for Sustainable and Decarbonised Transport Pathways”, among others.

The ITF is delighted to join the SLOCAT Partnership, a crucial global voice for climate action in the transport sector.
The ITF recognises the need for urgent action to build a sustainable transport industry in line with the Paris Agreement. A worker-led just transition built on co-operation between trade unions, employers and policy makers will be critical for delivering this and we look forward to deepening our working relationship with the SLOCAT partnership to accelerate climate action and deliver climate justice.

Greenpeace’s commitment to sustainability and bold environmental action,
along with ITF’s deep connection to transport workers worldwide, aligns perfectly with SLOCAT’s mission.
Together, we will champion just, equitable transport policies that prioritise transport workers, people and the planet. We look forward to collaborating with these esteemed organisations to accelerate transformative climate action and promote sustainable, low-carbon mobility for all.
